Red Queen of the Eden Valley Shiraz 2013

One ancient site of Eden Valley is Dandelion Vineyard’s Red Queen

The Red Queen of the Eden Valley vineyard was 102 years young in vintage 2013. These ancient, gnarled vines, many over a hundred years of age, are not only surviving but thriving on their own roots in some of the oldest soils on the planet.

On April the 8th whole bunches of flavour ripe Shiraz were hand harvested, then we gently crushed two thirds of the grapes over a third of whole bunch fruit and naturally fermented in open fermenters for eleven days, hand plunged three times a day, before careful basket pressing into half new and half one year old French Oak Barriques to finish fermentation.

Two and a half years maturation and a racking in the same oak, we bottled 408 dozen only of this fourth vintage of Red Queen without filtration or fining, to capture the essence of the vineyard. Dandelion Vineyard’s Red Queen will reward cellaring and decanting. Thank you Mr. Kroehn.
