Blue Gold & Top 100 - Sydney February 10 2015
Lioness of McLaren Vale Shiraz 2013 won Blue Gold & Top 100 at the Sydney Top 100 in February 2015. This is what the judges had to say:
It had a lot more power and tannin. A good balance of fruit and oak and great length. White pepper on the nose. The food brought out a layer of sweetness in the wine and the oak was toned down with the introduction of the food.
Rich stewed plum aromas on the nose. There was also some jammy complexity. A very rich and powerful wine with fruit well supported by a tannic line throughout the length of the palate and these tannins were tempered by the food.
Riper more red summer fruit characters on this aromatic. The palate is almost sweet and firmly framed by oak and skinned tannins. Good warm length.
Deep red in colour. Expressive liqueur cherry and raspberry nose. The palate is soft and finishes short. Lacks structure.
Quite a rich and juicy palate. Dry with medium plus acidity. A touch short on the finish and a hint of charry oak. Overall it’s just okay with the food.
A magenta colour. A dusty nose. Burnt toast and black olive with some jam. More jam follows onto the palate. Very round soft edged tannins. Better with food but still with a very jammy finish.
