Damsel of the Barossa Merlot 2011 "From some of the oldest, if not the oldest, merlot vines in the Barossa Valley, planted 33 years ago; quite how the colour was achieved I don't know, but perhaps vine age helped. Open-fermented, finishing that fermentation in older French oak barriques, the wine has that plummy character that seems to be associated with the clone most widely planted in Australia; oak also plays a role." Drink by: 2016 Date tasted: 09/Jan/2013 James Halliday 2014 Wine Companion
